Sr Supervisor, Compliance Investigations
PayPal is hiring for a Sr Supervisor, Compliance Investigations. The role is focused on ensuring activity within the PayPal system complies with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations and guidelines. The candidate will be an AML Subject Matter Expert with emphasis on high?risk and complex investigations, creation, monitoring, and timely delivery of SARs to local regulators. The position involves handling highly sensitive casework and investigating customer activity across multiple platforms to ensure adherence to governing bodies including the FIU (Financial Intelligence Unit).
Job Description Summary: This role is responsible for ensuring that activity within the PayPal system is compliant with AML regulations. You will exercise independent judgment in preparing SARs and in investigations that require discretion and sensitivity.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Applying analytic techniques to complex information sets to make logically supported recommendations on cases for reporting. These decisions are critical to PayPals fiduciary responsibility under the Bank Secrecy Act to monitor customer activity and report suspicious activity.
- Assessing customer profiles and large data sets to ensure normal activity, including Acceptable Use Policy adherence and Know Your Customer efforts.
- Documenting complex findings in a clear narrative style format in both manual and automated case management systems and preparing reports for management as required.
- Regularly exercising good judgment in making decisions or recommendations in relation to multiple complex case investigations.
- Focusing on High-Risk and complex investigations, while other team members may have a broader mandate.
- Analyzing trends in the use of Crypto on the PayPal platform to identify potential abuse and ensure detections are effective.
- Leveraging internal data and open-source resources to investigate potentially illicit activities and support investigative decisions.
- Documenting findings in narrative format and preparing management reports as required.
- Regularly exercising good judgment in decision-making for case investigations.
Expected Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Additional Responsibilities And Preferred Qualifications
- Responsible for conducting investigations into potential violations of PayPals Acceptable Use Policy and related requirements of PayPals banking and card network partners.
- The Brand Risk Management program helps protect the PayPal brand from risk arising from use of the platform for illegal or restricted activities. Investigators will research, review, and investigate potential AUP violations, including materials or services that are sexual in nature, firearms, gambling, pharmaceuticals, and other violations detailed in PayPals AUP.
- Analyze user activities, gather insights, and make informed decisions using multiple resources including PayPal account activity, external activity on associated websites, customer contact, and other tools.
- Demonstrate the ability to understand opposing points of view on highly complex issues and negotiate with leadership. Interaction with peers, risk professionals, management, and other constituents may be required.
- Stay current with policy changes and contribute to enhancing processes and controls. Communicate professionally with customers and partners.
- Investigators will handle sensitive and/or offensive material as part of essential duties.
Additional Requirements:
- A bachelors degree in Finance, Legal, Criminal Justice or a comparable field, or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 3 years experience in fraud, AML, customer/enhanced due diligence investigations or verifications
- Ability to analyze large data sets to report critical information
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills for conveying complex information clearly
- Ability to understand opposing viewpoints on highly complex issues
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- High level of professionalism, self-motivation and sense of urgency
- Drive for results and strong problem-solving skills
- Fluency in English
