The Field Safety Manager is responsible for consulting with Field Operations Management on safety related issues impacting field crews and yard operations for Omaha Track, Inc. and its subsidiaries. Their mission will be to re-enforce a strong culture of safety throughout the organization. They will conduct audits, observations and serve as the frontline safety contact for field crew, yard employees and operations management.
To be successful in this role, you'll need a strong foundation in safety management, combined with hands-on experience in railroad or industrial field operations, and a solid understanding of relevant regulatory requirements, including:
49 CFR 214, with emphasis on Subpart C: Roadway Worker Protection
OSHA, DOT, FRA, and FMCSA regulations
Familiarity with railroad-specific equipment such as hi-rail trucks, rail carts, and Maintenance-of-Way (MOW) machinery
Preferred Certifications and Safety Training:
OSHA 30-Hour (Construction or General Industry)
Roadway Worker Protection (RWP)
First Aid/CPR Certification
Major Areas of Responsibility
- Partner with the other members of the safety team to develop and implement continuous improvement processes and procedures across all business units of Omaha Track
- Re-enforce Omaha Track's safety leadership culture (“LEAD”) in a manner that promotes cooperation and improved morale and serve as back-up as needed
- Serve as the frontline safety advisor for all Omaha Track facilities, field operations and consult with management on safety plans, scorecards, and conduct joint and solo observations and field crew audits
- Prepare bi-monthly safety alerts and monthly safety blasts
- Coordinate with the other members of the safety team to update the safety manual and rule book each year or as needed. Take the lead on preparing drafts for review and final product for distribution.
- Lead investigation for the safety team and assist other members of the team on investigations across the organization
- Utilize Site Docs data analytics software to generate reports and dashboards focused on safety performance.
- Assist with safety training as needed for new hires and annual renewal training
- Ensure the timely reporting of all safety and risk management related information for field operations
- Assist the Safety team with safety training as needed for new hires and annual renewal training
- Consult with management to establish/revise operational policies and resolve problems involving safety
- Ensure the timely reporting of all safety and risk management related information for all facilities
- Ensure Field crew D&A randoms are completed quarterly- Consult DER on all other testing and assist the Safety team with D&A testing
- Establish regular meetings with management and Monthly Safety meetings
- Perform additional duties as assigned or required not specifically outlined in this job description
Minimum Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in business, safety, management, occupational health, or related field required
- Graduate degree or additional certification(s) related to risk management, safety, and training is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with a focus on tact, coaching, public relations, and professionalism
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize appropriately and successfully manage projects through completion
- Must work well with others and promote teamwork
